The National Trust, in a first-time endeavor, conducted Badhte Kadam-I, a major Awareness campaign, from November 14-30, 2009. The purpose of the Badhte Kadam campaign is to raise awareness of the disability sector and National Trust, and to meet the following goals:
* Provide information on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), to which India is a signatory;
* Provide understanding of Natonal Trust programmes and schemes;
* To celebrate diversity; and
* To focus on Discoverabilities
The Campaign 2009
Four teams were flagged off from Delhi on Children’s Day, 14th November, in different directions – one route covering Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand; another covering Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Orissa, the third covering Uattar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, and the fourth route covering Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Each team of six members travelled by two cars and stopped at 15- partner (SNAP) locations over the next 15 days, which included a two-hour event (mela).
BADHTE KADAM 2010
Due to the overwhelming success of Badhte Kadam 2009, Bahdte Kadam 2010, is being conducted throughout the whole of India from November 16-30, 2010. Twenty nine (29) States and One (1) Union Territories (UT) SNACs have signed on to conduct eight events (mela) throughout each state and UT. Each State/Union Territory (UT) will have six volunteers travelling to the melas with different route partner organizations. Badhte Kadam 2010 will have its official all India flag off at the Constitution Club, New Delhi on November 16 at 3 PM. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend all Badhte Kadam events including this colorful Flag Off featuring a celebration of the diversity that makes our country great. Each team will have their local flag off on November 19. From November 20-27 each local team will travel throughout their State/UT spreading the Badhte Kadam messages. On November 30 at 3 PM, again at the Constitution Club, there will be an all India Flag In ceremony. On December 3, the items collected from each local mela will be displayed in Delhi at a site yet to be determined.
