The Government of India with the objective of imparting education in the field of speech and hearing established the Institute in 1966. Today, AIISH has not only grown to become the Countrys premier institute in its field, but has also branched itself into a multi-disciplinary organization spanning a host of activities in speech and hearing. AIISH is located on a sprawling 32 acres of land at Manasagangothri, the postgraduate campus of the University of Mysore. The All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) is committed to bring a better quality of life into the lives of people with communication disorders. AIISH is the only institute in the whole of South Asia, which brings together the activities of research, education, public education, training and clinical services in speech and hearing on a single platform. AIISH is affiliated to the University of Mysore and offers education programmes leading to B.Sc. M.Sc. and Ph.D in Speech and Hearing. In addition to these programmes, it offers public education programmes and extension services, which form a major component of its service delivery system. It also offers various training programmes for Speech Pathologists, Audiologists, allied professionals like doctors, teachers, B.Ed. students and parents of the speech and hearing handicapped. AIISHs Clinical Services Division provides clinical services to people with various types of communication disorders. The Research Wing of AIISH implements research and development projects related to speech and hearing. AIISH is wholly financed by the Government of India and functions as an autonomous organization under the direction of the Executive Council with the Hon'ble Union minister of Health and family welfare as chairman and the Hon'ble minister of Health and family welfare, Government of Karnataka as the Vice Chairman.
