iGest is a wearable device that identifies and captures the natural movement of an individual and associates it with a predetermined sentence of their choice enabling communication. The device captures the user’s movement using a combination of accelerometers, magnetometer and gyroscopes and sends this information over a blue tooth link to a mobile phone. The phone/computer runs a motion tracking software to identify a particular movement e.g. rotation of the wrist, and then based on the algorithm set, associates the movement with one of the sentences in the library. Augmenting the communication of individuals with cerebral palsy, speech and motor impairments. iGest is also useful for compliance monitoring during occupational therapy, for sports training, geriatrics and neurological rehabilitation.
